Masking patterns for monopolar and phantom electrode stimulation in cochlear implants

► Masking patterns were measured for Monopolar (MP) and Phantom (PE) stimulation. ► Spread of excitation is different for PE stimulation relative to MP stimulation. ► Changes in excitation pattern are consistent with the pitch shift produced by PE. ► PE stimulation can be used to limit spread of excitation in cochlear implants.
