Stimulus characteristics which lessen the impact of threshold fine structure on estimates of hearing status

► Pure-tone thresholds obtained with high-frequency resolution vary up to 15 dB. ► Narrow-band stimuli were predicted to be less influenced by this fine structure. ► Four different stimulus types were tested. ► Narrow-band noise and linear sweeps provided stable threshold estimates. ► Sinusoidally frequency modulated tone did not provide stable threshold estimates.
