Basidiobolus haptosporus is frequently associated with the gamasid mite Leptogamasus obesus

► A segment of the life cycle of Basidiobolus haptosporus could be elucidated. ► An association between B. haptosporus and a predatory soil mite was discovered. ► The fungus was not traceable in oribatid mites and in the surrounding soil. ► Morpho-anatomical features of an isolated strain of B. haptosporus are presented.
