► Mineral oil can significantly enhanced Entamoeba histolytica proliferation in microplates. ► Mineral oil covered medium-containing wells produced higher trophozoite numbers kept adherent and motile. ► Mineral oil addition reduces oxidative stress, down modulating reactive oxidative species production within trophozoites.
