Influence of long-term treatment with pravastatin on the survival, evolution of cutaneous lesion and weight of animals infected by Leishmania amazonensis

► Pravastatin prolonged the survival of the Leishmania-infected BALB/c mice. ► The increment of footpad thickness was lower for the pravastatin treated BALB/c mice from the 14th week treatment onward. ► Increased footpad thickness occurred earlier in C57BL/6 mice than BALB/c mice. ► Footpad thickness in BALB/c mice was higher than C57BL/6 mice from weeks 14 to 32. ► Pravastatin was leishmanicidal only for high concentration.
