In vitro culture of marine trematodes from their snail first intermediate host

► An in vitro culture system was optimized using Philophthalmus sp. rediae. ► Initial parameters tested were osmolality and concentration of chicken serum. ► Subsequent tests included three media bases and addition of vitamins and amino acids. ► The medium was successfully tested on six trematode spp. from five families.
