Toxoplasma gondii: Determination of the onset of chronic infection in mice and the in vitro reactivation of brain cysts

► Brain cysts were detected 2 weeks post infection and reached a plateau at week 4. ► Chronic brain toxoplasmosis was developed by week 4 and validated at week 16. ► Only cysts and not tachyzoites were detected in brain. ► Reactivation of cyst in vitro was not influenced by the age of the brain cysts.
