Plasmodium falciparum: Effect of antimalarial drugs, malaria pigment (β-haematin) and Plasmodium falciparum lysate on monocyte GTP-cyclohydrolase 1 gene expression

► Monocyte GTP-cyclohydrolase 1 mRNA expression changed with 3 antimalarial drugs. ► Amodiaquine, choloquine, doxycycline and pyrimethamine had no effect. ► Quinine, artemesini, primaquine and malaria lysate reduced the mRNA expression. ► β-haematin increased monocyte GTP-cyclohydrolase 1 mRNA expression.
