► Presence of Trichobilharzia regenti in nervous tissue led to influx of immune cells. ► Macrophages/microglia played the main role in destruction of the schistosomula. ► Migrating schistosomula caused axonal injury in the host CNS. ► Schistosomula feed on the nervous tissue components during their migration.
