► LACK, the Leishmania homolog of receptors for activated C-kinase, binds plasminogen. ► Recombinant LACK and secreted proteins enhance plasminogen activation by t-PA. ► An internal plasminogen binding motif similar to those found in several enolases is present in LACK. ► In addition to other localizations, LACK was also localized on the external surface of the membrane.
