The impact of nitrogen deposition on acid grasslands in the Atlantic region of Europe

► N deposition is negatively correlated with forb richness as a proportion of species richness. ► Soil C:N ratio increased with increasing N deposition. ► Soil extractable nitrate and ammonium were not related to nitrogen deposition. ► Plant-tissue N content was not a good indicator of N deposition.
