Novel sulfonated polybenzothiazoles with outstanding dimensional stability for proton exchange membranes

► Soluble sPBTs were achieved by incorporation of the ether group for the first time. ► Their swelling almost showed no change with temperature at elevated temperatures. ► The high dimensional stability is ascribed to strong intermolecular interactions.
