Winds, sea levels and North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) influences: An evaluation

► Increased storminess predicted by many, has not continued into the first decade of the twenty-first century. ► Problems identified using land based wind records and/or one location as representative of a coastline. ► North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) indices, especially in positive phases, showed strong correlations with wind speed. ► Significant trends are shown for wind speed, wind direction, sea levels and NAO Index.
