Low‐magnification microwear in Carnivora and dietary diversity in Hyaenodon (Mammalia: Hyaenodontidae) with additional information on its enamel microstructure

► Initially Hyaenodon species from all continents were studied concerning microwear. ► Evidence from the microwear and the enamel ultrastructure analysis was combined. ► A dietary niche similar to the spotted hyena and the lion is confirmed for Hyaenodon. ► For the first time different dietary niches are indicated for Hyaenodon.
