Morphology and composition of bone-bearing coprolites from the Late Permian Beaufort Group, Karoo Basin, South Africa

► We recognise 5 morphotypes of Late Permian bone-bearing coprolites. ► The coprolites are linked to carnivores in the Tropidostoma Assemblage Zone. ► Histology of the bone inclusions shows perinatal and juvenile bones are common. ► Two tissue types show dicynodonts and parareptiles as most common prey. ► Some coprolites contain enigmatic hair-like structures.
