The Madotz Urgonian platform (Aralar, northern Spain): Paleoecological changes in response to Early Aptian global environmental events

► We study a well-preserved Aptian carbonate shelf succession in the Aralar Mountains. ► A continuous and detailed C-isotope curve is established improving previous records. ► A clear link between C-cycle and calcification crisis is identified in the study ramp. ► A shift from coral- to orbitolinid-rich carbonates concurs with the increase of pCO2.
