Intensified cleaning of organic-fouled reverse osmosis membranes by thermo-responsive polymer (TRP)

► Cleaning of organic-fouled RO membrane can be intensified by using TRP. ► The phase transition of TRP facilitates the removal of foulants on membrane surface. ► The efficiency of the intensified cleaning is largely affected by the type of TRP. ► The cleaning efficiency can be enhanced by increasing the concentration of TRP solution. ► The cleaning efficiency can be improved by prolonging the soaking time of TRP solution.
