Short-term physiological effects of a xenobiotic mixture on the freshwater mussel Elliptio complanata exposed to municipal effluents

► We investigate the effects of municipal effluents on caged mussels in the field. ► We characterize the bacterial and chemical contaminations arising from the effluent. ► NP, VOC and pharmaceutical products are the main organic contaminants detected. ► The effluents influence the immune functions and the cellular detoxication processes.
