Study on membrane characteristics of alginate-chitosan microcapsule with cell growth

► Alginate-chitosan microcapsule with PEC membrane for cell culture was concerned. ► We pay attention to the influence of dynamic cell growth on membrane characteristics. ► Membrane thickness and swelling increased but permeability decreased with cell growth. ► The former membrane became 'apparent membrane' by forming new layers with cell growth.
