A comparative study of two composts as filter media for the removal of gaseous reduced sulfur compounds (RSCs) by biofiltration: Application at industrial scale

► Two composts were tested as biofilter media to remove a mixture of RSCs containing H2S, MeSH, and Me2S. ► The biofilter containing the yard waste compost filter medium is the more efficient in terms of EC and RE. ► The yard waste compost as filter medium at industrial scale is efficient under specific conditions. ► The maximum EC value for RSCs was 935 mg m−3 h−1 (100% RE) for an IL ranging from 0 to 1000 mg m−3 h−1. ► Biofiltration is a robust and efficient technology for removal of RSCs present at low concentration.
