► Plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition of TiO2 reduces the γ-Al2O3 meso pore size. ► At 448 K the H2/CO2 permselectivity is 10, the separation factor 5.8. ► The porosity is largely retained, the initial pore size was successfully reduced.
