Novel membrane mimetic systems based on amphiphilic oxyethylated calix[4]arene: Aggregative and liquid crystalline behavior

▶ The stepwise aggregation occurs in solutions of amphiphilic oxyethylated calixarenes. ▶ Infinite structures of ca. 100 nm in size cover the concentrations below 10−3 M. ▶ Small aggregates (∼10 nm in diameter) are formed beyond 10−3 M. ▶ Two models (open and closed) are probably responsible for this behavior. ▶ The anisotropic behavior is revealed with the concentration of calixarene solutions.
