Response of southwest monsoon winds on shelf circulation off Kerala Coast, India

▶ Observed variability of winds near Kerala Coast on spatial and temporal scales. ▶ Reversal of currents as wind speed reduces suddenly below 3 m s−1 towards the coast. ▶ Reversal of currents result an increase in local SST, comparable with TMI SST. ▶ Explained the currents in terms of local vorticity due to reduction of wind speed. ▶ Noticed time lag of a day between reduction in wind and reversal of coastal currents.
