Characterization of a new strain of Taura syndrome virus (TSV) from Colombian shrimp farms and the implication in the selection of TSV resistant lines

► The recent outbreak of TSV present in Colombia is caused by a new strain of TSV. ► TSV CO 10 is as pathogenic as the TSV BLZ (the most pathogenic TSV strain). ► The pathogenicity of TSV CO 10 is given in part by the higher viral load. ► To develop TSV-resistant lines, shrimp must be challenged with local TSV virus strain.
