Leaching behavior of cadmium from hazardous waste

► Hazardous waste was used as a secondary resource for cadmium extraction. ► 97% of cadmium was extracted in 30 min leaching at 25 °C using 8% (V/V) H2SO4. ► The kinetics analysis showed that the dissolution was governed by diffusion control. ► Kinetic model was: 1-3(1-α)23+2(1-α)=0.63[H2SO4]1.35(d)-0.238SL-0.76(SS)0.58exp-7.23RTt. ► Characterization of sample before and after extraction confirmed kinetics model.
