CFD-assisted design improvement of a bench-scale nanofiltration cell

► CFD simulation of the laminar fluid flow in a flat circular filtration cell. ► Design modifications lead to a sharp increase of velocity and wall shear stress. ► Experimental nanofiltration flux dramatically enhanced with the new designed cell. ► Addition of grooves on the cell top showed intense wall shear stress fluctuations.
