Facies related phylostratigraphy of the benthic neoselachian Ptychodus from the Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian/Turonian) of the Pre-North Sea Basin of Europe

► Neoselachian Ptychodus species in NW-Germany are reviewed. ► Taphonomy, facies and palaeoenvironment were studied at several sites. ► Teeth are useful for late Cretaceous phylo- and biostratigraphy. ► Tooth sizes correlate with increasing inoceramid shell development. ► Reworked teeth support palaeogeographical reconstructions.
