Biomimetic oxidation of guggulsterone with hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by iron(III)porphyrins in ionic liquid

► Epoxidation of guggulsterone catalyzed by iron(III)porphyrin was performed. ► Mechanistic aspects of epoxidation of guggulsterone were studied. ► Ionic liquid served as suitable reaction medium for the epoxidation reaction. ► Z-guggulsterone was found to be more reactive than E-guggulsterone.
