Human dimensions of land use and land cover change related to civil unrest in the Imatong Mountains of South Sudan

► We explored the impacts of conflict on people in a forested area of South Sudan. ► We used Landsat imagery and interviews to understand some of the effects of war. ► Multiple conflicts caused people to hide in forests or flee to nearby areas, including Uganda. ► Forest cover loss was minimal in the Reserve and extensive in nearby forests.
