A further evaluation of the mixing controlled direct chemistry (MCDC) combustion model for diesel engine combustion using large eddy simulation

► A review of MCDC model and Kong-Reitz model is presented. ► We perform a detailed comparison between experiments, MCDC and other models. ► A single cylinder oil test engine is used for model validation over six operating modes. ► MCDC model shows improved prediction cylinder averaged results. ► The improvements are analyzed by evaluation of the time scales from MCDC model.
