The role of surface acidity in adsorption of aromatic sulfur heterocycles from fuels

► The sulfur adsorption sites of Ag/TiO2 and Ag/Al2O3 were acidic in nature. ► The acid sites were generated after activation and Ag impregnation. ► The thiophenic species are preferentially adsorbed on the surface hydroxyl groups.
