Spray characterization of gasoline-ethanol blends from a multi-hole port fuel injector

► The spray structure and droplet sizes were measured for low-pressure PFI sprays. ► Gasoline, ethanol, and blends containing 10%, 20% and 50% ethanol were studied. ► Results indicate that the fuels exhibit similar spray progression and droplet sizes. ► The effect of fuel viscosity is not prominent due to the complex mode of atomization. ► The results would be useful while converting existing PFI systems to use ethanol.
