Production of hydrocarbons from fatty acids and animal fat in the presence of water and sodium carbonate: Reactor performance and fuel properties

► We present the thermal degradation of animal fat in the presence of water and sodium carbonate (input up to 40 kg/h). ► A hydrocarbon based bio-crude and non-condensable gases are produced. ► The rectification of bio-crude produces a gasoline as well as a diesel fraction. ► Bio-diesel has a CFPP of −18 °C with oxidation stability between that of mineral oil based diesel and FAME.
