Integrated extraction and low severity upgrading of oilsands bitumen by activated natural zeolite catalysts

► Activated chabazite and clinoptilolite are efficient, economical low temperature cracking catalysts. ► These catalysts crack the residue fractions into low boiling point and less viscous liquid products. ► The liquid yields are much higher compared to analogous thermal cracking reactions. ► Natural zeolite catalysts reduce the concentration of N, S and V in liquid products. ► These catalysts show potential for an integrated extraction and upgrading process for oilsands bitumen.
