A spheroid BaTiO3 with a diameter of approximately 2.5 mm was synthesized using an aerodynamic levitator. A polycrystalline perovskite BaTiO3 was crystallized from a homogeneous melt. The transition from cubic to hexagonal shifted to low temperature due to oxygen-deficient BaTiO3. The aerodynamic levitation technique provided an effective method for determining the thermophysical properties such as latent heat of fusion, density, and volumetric thermal expansion coefficient of materials.
► BaTiO3 sample was prepared from a homogeneous melt using an aerodynamic levitator.
► The enthalpy of fusion was estimated from the temperature–time profile.
► Densities of liquid and solid phases at high temperature were determined.
► The ratio of convective to radiative heat loss showed strong temperature dependence.
