The single-phase heat transfer characteristic of pulsating flow induced by rolling motion in a circular pipe is experimentally studied. The results show that the period of the flow rate pulsation with the same value of the rolling motion. The larger the cycle-averaged flow rate or rolling period, the smaller the pulsation amplitude of the Reynolds number and Nusselt number. However, the pulsation amplitude increases with the increase of maximum rolling angle. Through the cycle-averaged heat transfer characteristic in pulsating flow is the same with that in steady flow, the instantaneous heat transfer characteristic is significantly influenced by the rolling motion and cannot predict by the steady flow heat transfer correlations. Based on the relationship between the relative pulsation amplitude of Reynolds number, the relative pulsation amplitude of Nusselt number and cycle-averaged Reynolds number, the prediction correlations were suggested to predict the instantaneous heat transfer characteristic of pulsating flow under rolling motion condition.
