A Chitinase-like Protein Induced in NaCl-stress Adaptive Croton Stellatopilosus Ohba Callus

This work was conducted to examine proteins up-regulated in 100 mM NaCl-adaptive Croton stellatopilosus Ohba callus. Protein staining of SDS-gel markedly revealed an induced band at 16 kDa which was positive to the detection of glycoprotein and biotinylated protein by Western blotting. Other two biotinylated proteins of close size were also found inductive. Fractionated protein extraction resulted in the discrimination of distinct 16-kDa proteins in cytosolic, membrane and cell wall fractions. An inductive 16-kDa glycoprotein was specifically detectable in the cell wall fraction. The protein was recovered with 20-40% saturation (NH4)2SO4 to process LC-MS/MS identification as a chitinase-like protein.
