A multi-path QoS routing (MPQR) scheme is proposed for Polar-orbit Low Earth Orbit satellite networks. MPQR is a source-based routing scheme, which employs genetic satellite inter-satellite link routing (GSIR), based on genetic algorithm, to implement QoS routing. Several key ingredients are re-designed: fitness function considering both the traffic distribution on the earth and the characteristic of Polar-orbit satellite constellation, mutation probability based on satellite congestion state, population diversity handling with simulated annealing. Through simulations on an Iridium-like system, MPQR is shown to achieve lower computation overhead, and more QoS guarantees than the previously proposed method on delay jitter, new call blocking probability (CBP) and handover call blocking probability (HBP) with bandwidth and end-to-end delay constraints. Especially, simulation results thoroughly reveal the impact of three key ingredients on the observed QoS parameters and computational complexity.
