Optimum quality design system for steel products through locally weighted regression model

A new quality design system for steel products using a type of Just-In-Time modeling is proposed. The present research focuses on how to determine the optimal manufacturing conditions for securing the target quality by using locally weighted regression, a type of Just-In-Time modeling, while only the quality estimation or prediction had been tackled in the past research on Just-In-Time modeling. The proposed method can improve design accuracy and shorten design time in comparison with the conventional technique. The developed system has been applied practically at JFE Steel's West Japan Works and has contributed to reduction of quality deviations and production cost.
