Hausmannite nanorods prepared by electrodeposition from nitrate medium via electrogeneration of base

This letter first describes a facile and low-cost, electrochemical approach to the large-scale preparation of Hausmannite (Mn3O4) single crystal nanorods at 60 °C without any template and surfactant. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) show that the nanorods are pure single structures. The morphology of the product was examined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mn3O4 crystal nanorods are about 15 nm in average diameter and 200 nm in length. Finally the formation mechanism of Mn3O4 nanorods was proposed and discussed.

► The Mn3O4 nanorods have an average diameter of 15 nm and length of 200 nm.
► The obtained nano structure has not been reported until now.
► The sample may have a potential application in supercapacitor and catalytic fields.
