Layered double hydroxides as containers of inhibitors in organic coatings for corrosion protection of carbon steel

► Layered double hydroxides (LDH) as containers for inhibitors corrosion in an epoxy coating. ► 2-Benzothiazolylthio-succinic acid (BTSA) was intercalated in LDH. ► BTSA loading in LDH-BTSA was 33%. ► LDH-BTSA is an anodic inhibitor for carbon steel. ► The presence of LDH-BTSA improved corrosion protection of epoxy coating.
