Atomic oxygen-resistant and transparent polyimide coatings from [3,5-bis(3-aminophenoxy)phenyl]diphenylphosphine oxide and aromatic dianhydrides: Preparation and characterization

► We prepared a series of phosphorous-containing polyimide coatings. ► The effects of the meta-substituted phenylphosphine oxide (PPO) groups on the properties of the synthesized polymers were studied. ► The results indicated that the PPO substituents endowed the polyimides good atomic oxygen resistance. ► The solubility of the polymers in organic solvents and the optical transparency were enhanced at the same time.
