Removal of brominated flame retardant from electrical and electronic waste plastic by solvothermal technique

► A process for brominated flame retardants (BFRs) removal in plastic was established. ► The plastic became bromine-free with the structure maintained after this treatment. ► BFRs transferred into alcohol solvent were easily debrominated by metallic copper.
