Adsorption properties of an activated carbon for 18 cytokines and HMGB1 from inflammatory model plasma

- Activated carbon (AC) adsorption properties for cytokines and HMGB1 were evaluated.
- 18 cytokines and HMGB1 were adsorbed in the mesopores and external surface of the AC.
- Large cytokine molecules were only adsorbed on external surface.
- Cytokine adsorption mechanism depends on its molecular weight and porosity of AC.
