The influence of physical properties and morphology of crystallised lactose on delivery of salbutamol sulphate from dry powder inhalers

► Non-solvent crystallisation is potential to prepare lactose particles with favourable properties. ► The poorer the flowability of lactose powders the lower drug emission from inhaler device. ► Reduction in drug-carrier adhesion properties was obtained with engineered lactose particles. ► Lactose powders with higher bulk density showed higher amounts of drug deposited in the lung. ► Drug content uniformity for DPI formulation is depended on carrier flowability and particle size.
