New tribological strategies for cutting tools following nature

► In this study the tribology of cutting visco-elastic materials was investigated. ► Nature's principles of self-sharpening teeth and tough biomaterials are shown. ► We transformed these principles into industrial tool concepts. ► We have shown that wear of cutting tools in a certain and controlled manner leads to high efficient cutting processes.
