Durability of PSS-supported Pd-membranes under mixed gas and water-gas shift conditions

▸ Thin Pd/PSS membranes were fabricated with high H2 permeance and high selectivity. ▸ Membranes were tested under mixed gas and WGS conditions for up to 900 h. ▸ Use of a Pd-membrane in the WGS reactor allowed for stable H2 recovery of 85%. ▸ Leak growth in the Pd-layer occurred gradually via the pinhole formation mechanism.
