Cost Oriented Suboptimal Control of the Thermal Treatment of Wood Materials

A cost oriented control system for thermal treatment of wood materials is under consideration. A rigorous mathematical modelling of the wood heating process described with PDE is used as a base for offline simulation and optimization. Some approximations in control low with minor losses of accuracy are accepted to achieve near optimal online performance resulting in investment and maintenance cost reduction. More than 20 of the developed systems are implemented in some SMEs in the woodworking industry with significant reduction of the duration and of the heat consumption of the thermal treatment.
