A water-soluble fluorescent probe for Fe(III): Improved selectivity over Cr(III)

A rhodamine-based “turn-on” fluorescent probe (RD2) for Fe3+ in aqueous solution was developed. Compared with the precursor RD1, RD2 can especially eliminate the interference of Cr3+ during Fe3+ detection by incorporating another pyridine moiety to the chelating moiety.
