Numerical stress analysis and rolling contact fatigue of White Etching Layer on rail steel

► White Etching Layer occurs on the surface of rails due to wheel/rail interactions. ► The behavior of WEL was investigated by using the twin disc test and FE analysis. ► WEL is detrimental to rail fatigue life through crack initiation and growth.
